OUR FOUNDER

FROM NIGERIA TO THE UNITED STATES

The Inspiring Story of Victor Mbaba, Founder of ACF of Metro Atlanta

Meet Our Founder: Victor Mbaba

The work of ACF of Metro Atlanta is profoundly shaped by the life and vision of its founder, Mr. Victor Mbaba. His commitment to children and families of African descent is born from his own story—one marked by loss, resilience, and an unshakable belief in the power of hope. Victor was born in Nigeria during a period of civil conflict. In 1967, at the height of the Biafran War, his village was bombed. He lost his parents, his home, and access to education—spending three years displaced and without the security every child deserves. These early hardships did not break him; instead, they ignited within him a lifelong mission: to ensure that no child should endure a hopeless life simply because of circumstances beyond their control. In 1993, fueled by that mission, Victor founded Africa's Children’s Fund in Atlanta, Georgia. For more than 30 years, the organization has provided children and families—locally and globally—with access to food, education, housing, and pathways to stability and success. In 2025, the organization adopted a new name, ACF of Metro Atlanta, to reaffirm its commitment to the community it calls home—Metro Atlanta—while aligning with the naming conventions of its sister organizations in Africa and the Caribbean. Though the name has evolved, the heart of our mission remains the same. Under Victor's steady leadership, ACF has become a beacon of compassion and empowerment. His empathy, shaped by his lived experience, guides our work and reminds us daily why it matters. Victor believes that every child deserves a chance to thrive. His life is a testament to what is possible when love meets action and when communities come together to lift one another up.
